You're Welcome

Over the years I have come to realise that as far as the food I eat is concerned 'old fashoned' is better for me than 'new fangled'. A few months before starting this blog I  decided to return to the sort of food I was fed as a child.  Food which was purer than today, free from additives, inorganic growth promoters, HFCS, MSG, or anything which started with an 'E' and sounded like a newly discovered planet.  so adopting the late Jack La Lanne's motto, 'if man made it don't eat it' I abandoned anything which comes out of a packet in favour of real meat, abundant veg, and wheat free sauces. i restocked the store cupboard with the old staples of dried marrow fat peas, pearl barley, split peas, lentils, and various beans, all those rarely seen low GI goodies which regularly graced the table over 50 years ago.  I threw out refined sugar and replaced it with unpasteurised honey and agave nectar, and scrapped white flour. I started using more traditional remedies (garlic, raw cider vinegar and honey).  It took me seven weeks from making these changes to drop  22 lbs. I have more energy, and generally enjoy my food so much more.  in the weeks to come I will share with you the old recipes which have changed my outlook on nutrition and pleasure in eating.  But this blog  will go much further than that.  I will also be exploring growing your own herbs and vegetables, the ultimate resource for live food and freshness, and there will be the odd exploration into foraging the hedgerows and commons, a diversion which has held my interest for over 20 years, since my first military survival course. There will be numerous recipes, experiments and other fun to enjoy as this journey unfolds. Enjoy it with me.
